Empowering and Developing Our Community Through Sport

A Registered Section 21 Company 2004 / 029254 / 08

Currently we are involved with a Gymnastics project. Gymnastics is a unique sport.  It develops co-ordination, balance, power, strength, flexibility, spatial awareness, skills in body movement, discipline, self-esteem, endurance, confidence and motivation, and offers hope for a better future. In addition to these advantages, it provides an ideal background and foundation for children to move into other sports because of, for example, the strength and endurance enjoyed by gymnasts.  While accommodating all children, we provide special assistance to under-privileged children.

Gymnastics provides an ideal platform for children of different cultures, races and social-economic dispensations to meet and integrate.

We are developing a permanent gymnastics facility, with safe equipment and professional coaching, provides the children of the community with an alternative to how to spend their time and their effort and will give them a healthy life focus.  Children’s minds will be put to good use and school holidays will have special planned events.

E-Sports is registered with Western Province Gymnastics as a disadvantaged Gymnastics Club.  E-Sports (Association incorporated under Section 21) is registered as a Section 21 non profit company  (2004/029254/08). We are in the process of applying for tax exemption under section 18a and 10.

The Alpha School Hall in Morningstar is being used.  The floor in the school hall has been repaired by having new 75 mm compacted concrete slab laid with coloring. Lafarge has kindly agreed to carry this out and cover all the cost involved.  The school is providing storage space for the equipment until E-Sports moves into the new facility located close to the school.

One of the disadvantaged school teachers from Alpha has attended the SAGF General Gymnastics League Course.  She has also attended the SAGF Level I course. A disadvantaged male from the community has also now attended the SAGF Level I Course. Funds need to be obtained to pay coaches. One of the directors of E-Sports is resisted with SAGF as Level II coach and another as Level IV.  One of them has also attended the FIG Level II course.  In addition, there are coaches from other clubs within Western Province who would like to be involved with coaching in E-Sports as they see the need to train disadvantaged gymnasts.

E-Sports has been loaned funds to be able to purchase some equipment and is applying for funding for other equipment to full accommodate General Gymnastics League, Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, and Men’s Artistic Gymnastics. E-Sports has quotes for the critically required equipment. Janssen & Frisen  (the official suppliers to Athens 2004 Olympics) have provided recommendations for the equipment layout in the school hall.

E-Sports is in consultation with The Durbanville Municipality for a plot of identified land located close to the school and is central to Durbanville, Morningstar and Fresuntrerkraal. People are assisting E-Sport with the Site Development Plans and Building Plans. The plan is to build a Multiple Sports Facility with a focus on Gymnastics.  The hall will be able to accommodate other sports such as badminton, basketball, volleyball, in door football and indoor football.  The concept is based on the recommendations of Sport England.

This worthwhile E-Sports project is definitely beneficial to our community and the empowering and development of the children.
